The founding of the Roman Empire remains somewhat of a mystery to this day. Much of what we know about this ancient culture is through writing and pictorials, and thus not as accurate as first hand accounts. However, we are still able to learn much about it by the little information we do have.
As writings have it, Romans date their origins to 753 BC, and to a Trojan man named Aeneas. Aeneas fled Troy, escaped its fall and ended up in Italy. There a monarchy was founded and two descendants of its kings were born named Romulus and Remus. The two brothers fought for rule and Remus was eventually murdered by his brother. Romulus thus became the sole ruler and Rome was established.
Life in the Roman Empire was heavily influenced by Greek customs. Style of dress, education, and athletics were all very similar to that of Greece. In fact, much of the language of the Roman Empire was derivative of their Greek influences.
The rule of the Roman Empire was long and fruitful and dates to roughly 476 AD. Many attribute the fall to the introduction of Christianity. However, there were many factors that contributed to the fall of one of the greatest empires of all time including military spending and poor health conditions. Nonetheless, the Roman Empire remains in history as one of the greatest empires of all time.
