The Crusades were a dark time in medieval history in which Christian England waged war on much of the Western world. Christianity was very powerful in England at this time and England wanted to keep it that way. The original plight of the Crusades was for England to recapture Jerusalem, also known as The Holy Land.
The effects of the Crusades were great and long lasting. The First Crusade, known as The Siege of Jerusalem took place in 1099 and was considered unsuccessful, yet their were Nine Crusades all together, each bloody and cruel. Many people were slaughtered including Muslim and Jewish civilians.
These Crusades ended in roughly 1271 and to this day are considered highly unsuccessful. Christian England never regained control of the Holy Land and their plight resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent citizens.
In today's world, many people look down on the Crusades, especially those in the Middle East. The terrible acts committed by medieval and Christian Europe are seen as intolerance and murder. Still today, Muslims are considered isolated in their policies. However, it is important to remember historical events such as these so that we may learn from them and not repeat mistakes made by our ancestors.
