Exploring prayer is a personal experience. There is no wrong way to pray. Several ways can help to improve your prayer life and deepen the spiritual understanding. One is through praise and thanksgiving recognizing God and turning your focus is away from yourself. This type of prayer often flows from the heart, sometimes rapidly, cheerfully and without reservation. This is the center of nearly all prayer.
Another type, adoration, means worshiping with your heart, mind and soul. This type of prayer offers quiet feelings with a sense of awe and basking in God’s presence. Confession or penitent prayer means asking the Lord to forgive your sin, shortcomings and things you’ve failed to do. Penance is mentioned throughout the entire bible. The Psalms are full of another type of prayer, petitions. The Holy Rosary is an excellent form of petition prayer. In scripture, Jesus tells us to ask, ask and ask again. The largest parts of prayers are petitions. People encounter trials everyday and ask the Lord for help with everything. Intercessory prayers involve helping and praying for someone else’s benefit, which is customary throughout history and today’s Christian culture. Prayers asking God to intercede for us are perfect examples of intercessory pray. Prayer can simply mean sitting quietly with a friend, offering a smile to a stranger, or doing a kind act that changed someone’s day. It is heartfelt words spoken in an effort to seek comfort and communion with God. |
