Exploring Prayers

Ever since the beginning of time, God has required us to pray to him. Not just to ask what we want or need, but he requires our prayers of praise and adoration. He also wants us to pray for others that are in need. He wants us to pray to ask for forgiveness.

Some churches and organizations believe that you need to pray a certain way and a certain time. Others believe that you can pray however you want, when and wherever you choose. Every one prays differently. Certain churches and organizations repeat the same prayers over and over again. This makes the prayer more impersonal. The most popular prayer would be the Lord’s Prayer.

Look at the construction of the prayer, for example, the Lord’s Prayer. The first part “Our father“, shows familiarity, we can call him father. This shows relationship with God. "Thy kingdom come," could mean when the end time is here, and Jesus comes back, Gods Kingdom will come. This part of the prayer we ask God to come, that we are waiting for his kingdom. "Give us this day our daily bread," here we are showing trust that God will take care of our needs. "Forgive us our trespasses," we are asking for forgiveness.

You will see that already this prayer covers three of the seven types of prayer: praise or adoration, confession or forgiveness and supplication. 2 Samuel 7:18-29 was a prayer of thanks by David. Each sect or religion has its own way of praying. You can explore so many, and maybe find the make up of the prayer you want, or you can create your own from the heart.
